Institute of Management And Research (IMR) was established in 1996 as a
constituent unit of the Deccan Education Society. It took over the MBA
programme, which was started in 1984 at Chintamanrao College of
Commerce, Sangli.
The Institute conducts Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.)
programme of Shivaji University, Kolhapur from June, 1984 and it is
approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) New Delhi
since 1994.
IMRS is a community of students, staff and faculty striving to be
vibrant with learning processes, which allow individuals to be
independent while being effective with their capabilities and creative
with their energy
Today it is one of the leading management institute in the Shivaji
University area offering three courses, viz : Master of Business
Administration (M.B.A. : Two years full time post graduation in
Management), Diploma in Business Management (D.B.M. : one year part time
diploma course for working executives), Bachelor of Business
Administration (B.B.A. : Three years undergraduate degree course).
Specializations offered in MBA Programme are Marketing Management,
Financial Management, Human Resource Management, Computer Management and
Agricultural Management. Computer Management and Agricultural Management
is a recent addition enabling students to take up jobs in IT sector as
well as Agro industrial sector.
Over the years MBA programme attracted talented students from various
states of India. 2003-2004 passed out batch represented almost 10 states
of India.
A) LOCATION OF THE INSTITUTE :
The Institute of Management And Research is situated at Sangli (M.S.).
India. It is overnight train travel from Mumbai and Banglore , Four
hours by road from Belgaum and Five hours by road from Pune.
Sangli is a district place. It is a municipal corporation of Sangli -
Miraj and Kupwad. The Institute is situated on Sangli-Miraj highway.
Seven kms. from Sangli at Vishrambag a beautifully developed suburb of
Sangli.
Vishrambag is developed as a major educational township in the region.
Engineering, Architecture, Pharmacy, Medical, Arts , Commerce , Science
and Management Colleges are located at here. A new education culture has
been developed here after Pune (the oxford of the East).
There are adequate and sophisticated facilities like Banking , Lodging ,
Transport and Telecommunication available within walking distance from
the Institute.
B) I.M.R.S. TRIES TO FULFILL THE FOLLOWING PURPOSES :
Our students should be helped to become strong professionals and
thinking individuals, aware of social needs as concerned citizens.
Our teaching must reflect all the progressive trends in the world of
management as well as rooted ness in Indian reality.
The Institute must create and maintain channels for two-way
communication of knowledge and information with the outside world.
The Institute should contribute, through teaching and example, to the
process of Indian business organizations becoming self-managing systems.

3. COMPUTER LAB :
IMR is having 3 Computer Labs with total 30 computers, 5 printers , 2
scanners. Computer Lab 1 is having 7 P-IV Machines ,Computer Lab 2 is
having 5 Machines , Computer Lab 3 (Virtual Library ) is having 5
Machines . In Library 2 PCs are used. One for Digital Library ( Library
Online ) and another for students to get information about books issued.
All 30 PCs are connected in LAN. Full Day Internet Access is available
for students.
4. AUDIO-VISUAL AIDS :
A Separate hall is provided for this, where television programmes as
well as video cassettes are shown to the students. This includes
educational as well as recreational material. Apart from this, the
Institute provides for live video shooting of important Seminars, Guest
lectures and other programmes presented by the students and the faculty
members. Number of audio and video cassettes on Management subjects are
available in the audio-visual hall equipped with OHP, TV, VCR, Slide
projector etc.
5. LIBRARY :
One can never be fulfilled with knowledge unless one approaches the
source of knowledge. It is the source of knowledge, which decides how
knowledgeable you will be. This is the role played by the library of an
institution. Our institution's library is also no exception. Right from
its inception the institute's library has been a knowledge bank for
students.
The institute's library is a veritable treasure trove with over 4500
books as a wide variety of subjects. In addition to this, it subscribes
to many newspapers and 30 periodicals including international business
magazines and other subscriptions for ready reference. The library also
maintains projects undertaken by students. The library is very prompt in
acquiring new editions.
The library with the help of Internet access to world's most reputed
libraries like Bakers Library of Harvard Business School, downloads
latest articles & working papers and circulates them among the students
and faculty.
6. HOSTEL :
Institute has well equipped hostel building hidden in the greeneries
around. It is an integral part of social and academic life, which
promotes group study and facilitates out of class learning. Rooms in the
Hostel are specious with required facilities.

It is the primary responsibility of a leading management institute to

10. RECOGNITION:
'A' RANK
A study conducted jointly by AIMA - Business India has rated this
Institute as 'A' Rank Institute. The study is published in Business
India (Cover story dt. 18th September, 2000). The leading magazine of
the corporate world 'Business India' in its cover story in the issue of
September 18th to October 1st, 2000. The magazine put forth the results
of the survey conducted by the "AIMA-Business India" and the Delhi based
Management Development Research Agency (MDRA) rated IMR as the 'A' grade
Institute. The survey was conducted among the 578 business schools. The
study included mailed survey, validation, tracking, analysis and field
surveys, took 30 man months and 1300 field research days. The structured
questionnaire used for the survey had 98 questions grouped under 27
parameters. A total of 1750 points were awarded to evaluate each
B-school. The distribution was spread over6 different heads and
weightages were assigned to each category. With an impressive 43.64 % of
interface with Industry Index, 58.75 % on Placement performance index
and 30 % on Intellectual Capital index. IMR went on to bag this
satisfactory index. The magazine puts forth the idea that 'A' category
schools have a strong regional spread and orientation giving new
direction to M.B.A. education in the country.

13. RESEARCH ACTIVITIES :
Institute is now recognized by I.C.S.S.R. , New Delhi, Govt. of India
Council for research in social sciences. A pilot project is completed. A
grant of Rs. 50,000/- is given to conduct research on Public
Distribution System. After this project Institute intends to go in for
sizable projects in social sciences including management.
The Institute is currently engaged in social science project of
"Identification & development of Entrepreneual skills among Fanners"
This research work is conducted in Sangli & surrounding area. The
project aims at taking advanced Management practices to grass - root
level.
IMR intends to be recognized as a Research Institute in long run which,
will enter into various avenues of research collaborating with other
institutes in India and abroad, The joint international research
projects on multidisciplinary issues is a need of the globalization
process.
